Position Description:
Performs beginning level professional analytic work in gathering, tabulating, and analyzing labor market and workforce data. Responsible for collection and processing of semi-annual Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) survey data, following established U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) procedures and guidelines. Extensive contact with employers via telephone is required.
Responsible for all phases of assigned survey units. Contacts employers to solicit data and encourage survey submission. Analyzes and identifies geographic areas and industries lacking response, and contacts non-respondents accordingly. Follows up with respondents as necessary for clarification of submissions and to collect missing information.
Gathers raw data from electronic files, reports, and paper survey forms. Formats electronic files and reviews survey forms for accuracy. Verifies, sorts, and codes data using the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system. Enters data into the national OEWS database for each survey form. Corrects and validates data through written correspondence, internet research, and making telephone calls. Analyzes and computes basic statistics and performs basic arithmetic.
Duties:
- Conducts the semi-annual Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) survey to collect occupational employment and wage data from employers, following procedures and guidelines established by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
- Performs collection duties for the program, calling employers to obtain data and encourage survey response.
- Analyzes and identifies geographic areas and industries lacking response, and concentrate collection efforts accordingly.
- Reviews, edits, and verifies information reported by employers for completeness and accuracy. Performs follow up contact (via phone, mail, email, and fax) to obtain clarification or collect missing data.
- Codes occupational data using the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system, and enters all data into the BLS Occupation Wage and Data Network system.
- Performs address refinement on sample units prior to solicitation. Verifies UI status, physical location, mailing address, contact information, previous response status, and current employment levels, prior to survey mailings.
- Runs and reviews quality control edits in the survey processing software. Analyzes problem areas and makes needed corrections or bypasses.
Skills/Qualifications:
- High school diploma or higher
- Experience in customer service, telephone sales, or collections a plus
- Data entry experience a plus
